András Horkay
Dip WSET, CE
András Horkay is the founder and director of the Central European Wine Institute (CEWI) which provides WSET wine education courses in Hungary. He is a WSET Diploma graduate (Dip WSET) and a WSET certified wine lecturer (CE). He’s been promoting Hungarian wines and wine regions both at home and abroad since 2010. He fulfilled the position of the Chairman of the National Wine Expert Commission between 2013-2018, starting from 2016 he acts as an advisor for the Villány wine region and between 2020 and 2022 he was also an advisor to the Mátra wine region. In 2019 he was awarded the Par Excellence Lecturer title by the Hungarian Sommelier Association. Since 2022, he has been teaching at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Szeged in the field of tourism and hospitality.

Furmint has been recognised and admired as a noble sweet wine in Hungary for centuries. Its excellence in this genre is due to its natural tendency for balance: increasing ripeness and high residual sugar do not blunt its vibrant acidity. In the early 2000s, a revolutionary change took place that brought this powerful grape variety to the forefront of dry wines with a remarkable ability to express its terroir. With our six-wine flight, you can discover Tokaj and Somló wine districts and several wine styles, from dry to sweet.
